Why Some People Do Not Obey The Gospel
God’s word is emphatic about being obedient to the Gospel. Those who do not obey the gospel only have an expectation of God’s wrath. “… when the Lord Jesus is revealed from heaven with His mighty angels, in flaming fire taking vengeance on those who do not know God, and on those who do not obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ.” (2 Thessalonians 1:7-8) Consider further 1 Peter 4:17, “For the time has come for judgment to begin at the house of God; and if it begins with us first, what will be the end of those who do not obey the gospel of God?” In view of these sobering facts, why would someone refuse to obey the gospel? What does the Bible say?
- Some Are Afraid. “Nevertheless even among the rulers many believed in Him, but because of the Pharisees they did not confess Him, lest they should be put out of the synagogue; for they loved the praise of men more than the praise of God.” John 12:42-43
- Some Are Selfish. The rich young ruler trusted in his riches and when told to sell his things and car for the poor, “he went away sorrowful, for he had great possessions.” (Matthew 19:22)
- Some Don’t Care. The church at Laodicea had this attitude problem and were warned to change. “So, because you are lukewarm, and neither hot nor cold, I will spit you out of my mouth.” (Revelation 3:16)
