Future Plans
You may be a person that plans for the future. There can be wisdom in this when done properly. However, if we are foolish, our future plans may be in vain or doomed to fail. James 4:13 speaks of this, “Come now, you who say, ‘Today or tomorrow we will go into such and such a town and spend a year there and trade and make a profit.’” These people had some big plans for tomorrow. What should be considered when thinking about the future plans we make? What does the Bible Say?
- Life Events Of The Future Are A Mystery. “… you do not know what tomorrow will bring.” (James 4:14a).
- Life On Earth Is Not Forever. “For you are a mist that appears for a little time and then vanishes.” (James 4:14b)
- It Is Foolish To Make Plans And Leave God Out Of The Plans. “Instead you ought to say, ‘If the Lord wills, we will live and do this or that.’” (James 4:15)
- Pride Causes Us To Leave God Out Of Future Plans. “As it is, you boast in your arrogance. All such boasting is evil.” (James 4:16)
One future thing we know for sure is that Jesus is coming back and we must be ready to meet Him. “For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, so that each one may receive what is due for what he has done in the body, whether good or evil.” (2 Corinthians 5:10) Let’s study to make sure that we plan to be ready for that great future day!
