An Inheritance From God
Peter writes about the blessings we have from God in Christ in 1 Peter 1:3, “Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who according to His abundant mercy has begotten us again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead…”. In speaking of this he refers to an inheritance in verse 4. What is this inheritance from God for those who are in Christ? What does the Bible say?
“… to an inheritance incorruptible and undefiled and that does not fade away, reserved in heaven for you…” (1 Peter 1:4)
- It Is Incorruptible. Paul speaks the eternal state of the faithful. “… in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, and the dead will be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed.” (1 Corinthians 15:52)
- It Is Undefiled. Jesus was undefiled and those who are His can have the hope of an undefiled eternity. “For such a High Priest was fitting for us, who is holy, harmless, undefiled, separate from sinners, and has become higher than the heavens …” (Hebrews 7:25)
- It Does Not Fade Away. The crown the Lord has for us is glorious and the glory does not fade. “… and when the Chief Shepherd appears, you will receive the crown of glory that does not fade away.” (1 Peter 5:4)
- It Is Reserved In Heaven. Our hope is to be with the Lord. “For in this we groan, earnestly desiring to be clothed with our habitation which is from heaven ...” (2 Corinthians 5:2)
Let’s study to know how to have this inheritance from God.
