Who Do I Believe?
There are many different people who teach many different things. Who is right? Who is wrong? How can I know that what I believe is right? Is it important to be right? The answers to all these questions can be answered by asking one other question: What does the Bible Say? We can find some answers in 1 John 4:1.
- Be Careful What You Believe. “Beloved, do not believe every spirit …” (1 John 4:1a). Do not believe everything you are taught.
- Examine Things That You Are Taught. “… test the spirits …” (1 John 4:1b). All teaching must be put to the test of scripture. “All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, that the man of God may be competent, equipped for every good work.” (2 Timothy 3:16-17).
- Not All Religious Teachings Are From God. “…to see whether they are from God …” (1 John 4:1c). False doctrine is just man made. “This people honors me with their lips, but their heart is far from me; in vain do they worship me, teaching as doctrines the commandments of men.” (Matthew 15:8-9).
- Realize That There Is Much False Teaching. “…many false prophets have gone out into the world.” (1 John 4:1d). Every wrong way is to be rejected.
Let’s study God’s word so we can be sure that all we believe is from God.
