Some Reminders On A Snowy Day
We recently had our first significant snowfall of the winter. The scriptures speak of snow. What are some things a snowy day might cause us to think about? What does the Bible say?
- God Is The Creator And Sustainer! The Almighty asks Job whether he understands what it is like to be God, if he can tell where God stores the precipitation. “Have you entered the storehouses of the snow?” (Job 38:22) Elihu reminds Job and his friends that even in the face of personal disaster that God is in control: “For to the snow he says, ‘Fall on the earth,’ likewise to the downpour, his mighty downpour.” (Job 37:6). A snowy day can remind us of God’s creative sustaining power.
- A Wise Woman Provides Warm Clothing For Her Family! There is comfort in having proper clothing to keep us warm. A virtuous wife and mother is very valuable and cares for her family. “She is not afraid of snow for her household, for all her household are clothed in scarlet.” (Proverbs 31:21). On a snowy day we can be reminded to be thankful for wise women who care for the needs of their family.
- When God Cleanses Us We Are Pure! Isaiah 1:18 says, “Come now, let us reason together, says the LORD: though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be as white as snow.” Looking out on the snow and seeing how it is pure and white, we are reminded of how God will wash away our sins when we obey the Gospel. “Arise and be baptized, and wash away your sins, calling on the name of the Lord.” (Acts 22:16)
Creation teaches us truths about God and His way … even a snowy day!
