Contend Earnestly For The Faith
Jude wrote to those of his day about evil men, their evil ways, and their evil teaching. He wanted them to know the way of salvation and exhorts them to “contend for the faith”. (Jude 3) How can we overcome terrible influences, contend for the faith, and follow God’s way? What does the Bible say?
“But you, beloved, building yourselves up in your most holy faith and praying in the Holy Spirit, keep yourselves in the love of God, waiting for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ that leads to eternal life.” (Jude 20-21)
- Build Yourselves Up. God’s word will build you up and make you strong to overcome evil. “And now I commend you to God and to the word of his grace, which is able to build you up and to give you the inheritance among all those who are sanctified.” (Acts 20:32)
- Pray. Prayer is a tool against all wrong. “But we pray to God that you may not do wrong, not that we may appear to have met the test, but that you may do what is right, though we may seem to have failed.” (2 Corinthians 13:7)
- Keep Yourselves in the Love of God. To overcome bad influence and help others we must keep from following things which lead us away from Christ. “Keep watch on yourself, lest you too be tempted.” (Galatians 6:1)
- Wait for God’s Mercy. Patiently and confidently waiting for God is a source of strength. “…they who wait for the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint.” (Isaiah 40:31)
We invite you to every service so we can study together how to overcome evil.
