A Spiritual Profit and Loss Analysis
A business may perform a profit and loss analysis regarding their financial condition. The Bible speaks of both profit and loss regarding man’s spiritual condition. How can we realize the profit and avoid the loss? What does the Bible say?
- There is no profit if the soul is lost! Jesus asks a question that all need to consider. “For what will it profit a man if he gains the whole world, and loses his own soul?” (Mark 8:36). The answer to Jesus’ question is that there is no profit if we experience the ultimate loss.
- Gaining Christ is worth any earthly loss! The Apostle Paul does a spiritual profit loss analysis. “Yet indeed I also count all things loss for the excellence of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord, for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and count them as rubbish, that I may gain Christ …” (Philippians 3:8). It is worth giving up everything earthly, to have the hope of eternal life. This hope is only in Christ.
- Count the cost! Jesus urges his disciples to consider the cost and benefit of following Him. In Luke 14:28-32, Jesus gives examples of counting the cost of discipleship. His conclusion is, “So likewise, whoever of you does not forsake all that he has cannot be My disciple.” (Luke 14:33). You must give all, to receive all that Jesus has for you.
Come study so we might know how to receive the profit that is in Christ and avoid the loss of your soul. There is nothing more important!
